Don't Shatter Your Glass Cooktop!

Do not lay a hot steamy pan lid on your glass stovetop!! It sucks the glass in until it explodes like a bomb when you remove it because of air trapped between the lid and the cooling cooking surface. Don't allow a pot or pan to boil dry or put hot items on a cold cooktop surface, as you could break or mar it.

A glass cooktop is also subject to scratching. While it may be tempting to slide a pot from a hot burner over to a cool area, doing so may scratch the cooktop surface, always lift to move it. Rough pans such as those made of cast iron can also scratch the glass. Abrasive cleaners and metal scouring pads should be avoided for the same reason. Scratches in the cooktop can in turn result in shattering.

Another sticky situation is when a pot boils over, if its contents dry quickly it can fuse the pot to your glass top stove if you don't remove the spill right away. You have to use caution when removing the stuck pot off of your glass top stove. DO NOT FORCE IT UPWARDS! Add water to the pan, heat it up and gently twist the pan to break the food bond not the glass.
